Disney, Knitting, and the Niece

So the trip to Disney on Ice with the niece went swimmingly.  It was quite enjoyable and she behaved like a sweet little lady the entire time.  When I picked her up from my sister she was eager and excited.  She talked nonstop on our way to dinner at Wendy's.  She then talked most of the way through the meal, pausing only to chomp away happily at her nuggets and fries.  When dinner was successfully consumed we headed on over to the Civic Center where the show was taking place.  We decided it was best to park in the Civic Center parking garage so we didn't have to walk as far as we would have had we parked at the local Mall.  It was twice the price for parking but the convenience factor was more important.  So we got parked (on the top floor) and made our way in to the show.  We arrived a mere 10 minutes before the show was set to start and were quite pleased to find that our seats were right by the main entrance to the arena.  So we se...

501...

I'm currently resting after a day of goofing about town with the hubby, gearing up for the night I'm about to have out with my niece.  She and I have never gone out just the two of us.  So this is a new adventure for us.  Earlier this week I won two tickets to Disney on Ice so that's what we'll be doing tonight.  Sitting among thousands watching people in costumes ice skate about portraying various Disney tales.  The current show consists of four themes based on the movies Cars, Toy Story, Tinkerbell and The Little Mermaid.  After the show we're having the niece over for an all night stay.  Which is also new to the lot of us as well.  Now that I have a spare bed for her to sleep on I figured that it was time to dip our toes into the world of sleep overs.  I'm sure once baby comes it'll be a while before I'll be ready to do it again.  But this will be a good trial run to see how it goes and how it could go once the baby is old enough fo...

* 500th Post *

Well here it is! My 500th Blog Post!  *cue balloons, confetti, streamers and marching band* What I love most about the fact that this happens to be my 500th post is that in it, I get to blog about my toilet. Yep, my toilet. Betcha thought it was gonna be something amazing.... Sorry to disappoint you, it's rather mundane in the grand scheme of things. But you  might find it entertaining. I had just returned from an enjoyable day out and about getting some exercise and collecting my winnings from a Facebook contest I won.  I had come up stairs to relax a bit, remembering that I had towels in the wash that needed dried.  So I went into the new bathroom with the new laundry closet and took care of that.  While I was in there I figured I'd spare myself a return trip in twenty minutes and see if I could relieve myself. (Details aren't necessary but I do want to say that nothing occurred that should have triggered the event that followed.) After t...

Strict Orders from the Midwife

I had my weekly check up yesterday with the widwife.  She was a little harried as she was the only midwife on duty (the other scheduled to be there was down with that nasty stomach bug that's been going around) and had two girls who had called early in the morning talking about maybe being in labor.  She was rushing through things because she was just certain that at any moment she would get the call for one or both of them and need to leave. I was actually eating lunch, enjoying a giant tasty pepperoni roll at one of my favorite local pizza joints when my cell phone rang, displaying the number to the midwives office.  They were calling to see if I could come early, due to the above mentioned dilemma.   I obliged.  When I got there and got into my little private room to await the midwife, I was relieved that I was getting in early.  I knew that if I had had to spend the rest of the hour and a half between lunch and my scheduled appointment time I'd have...

The Name Game

With a mere 28 (+/-) days to go I'm starting to panic a little that we still haven't come even remotely close to picking out a name for our baby girl.  I mean, we haven't even narrowed it down to a list of possibilities. The hubby did approach me the other day with a name he said popped into his head while driving home from work.  But emphasized that it wasn't one he was set on or anything but one that "just came to mind".... thanks for the vagueness honey! Naming a baby you haven't even met yet is tough work, though.  And many of our friends and family seem to think we've picked a name but are just keeping it a secret.  I wish! Seriously folks... it'll probably be day-of-birth baby naming for us.  Maybe even day or two after... I think deep down that we both kinda want to see her first before we stick her with a name that will be hers forever.

Holy Crap... again.

I just looked at my pregnancy ticker... 29 days left... O M G! Time flies...

Recliner, Activate!

Well last night I had a tough time getting comfortable in bed.  Hips, knees, lower back, even my shoulder were just aching like crazy.  Even with all of my pillows and propping techniques, which have worked up to this point, there was just no hope for falling asleep while aching all over.  So instead of moving from one flat surface to another by heading in to the new twin bed in the nursery... I opted to finally try sleeping on the reclining love seat.  Thankfully it didn't take long for me to get comfortable and I was off to dream land in no time.  I slept a solid 5 hours to boot.  It wasn't until baby girl nudged my bladder to wake me up around 4:30 this morning because she was running out of comfortable space, that I finally returned to my bed.  Hubby was set to get up in another 20 minutes to get ready for work and I knew I could steal his pillows to make the rest of my bedtime a little more comfortable.  I managed another two and a half h...

Terrible Joke Tuesday

Why was the little muffler so tired?  Because he was exhausted. *insert pithy courtesy laugh here* Why was the frog laying in the middle of the road, flat as a pancake? Because he was tired and rundown.   *eye roll* But seriously folks, that's how I feel today. Whooped, beat, exhausted.  No real reason why either.  I slept better last night that in recent nights.  I did wake a few times as usual with bathroom needs and once, not long after actually going to bed, because I was dying from heartburn and thought I might actually die if I didn't get to my Tums in time.  But overall, I'd say that my sleep intervals were longer than normal and I felt like I was sleeping well.  But I just couldn't drag myself out of bed until after 9 and when I finally did get my feet shuffling, I just felt like I'd been up for 24 hours already.  I made and ate breakfast, watched a little bit of Kelly & Michael, and then found myself dozing off in my sea...

The Final Countdown

So I had a check-up with the midwife today.  Things are going swimmingly according to her.  I'm still measuring right on track, 35 cm at 35 weeks.  She guesstimates that baby girl weighs around 5 lbs at this time, saying that she'll likely come out around 7 lbs.  She also says that baby is still head down, settling into my pelvis and should be "dropping" any day.  Which will be a much appreciated bit of relief on my stomach and lungs.  I am also now at the point where instead of every other week, I'll be going in to be checked every week, which means I'm seriously in the home stretch.  I'll be anxious to see where I am in the dilation and effacement world which will be checked for the first time at next weeks appointment.  I'll also be curious to see if I have the Group B Strep or not, as they will do that test next week as well.  If I test positive then I will have to take some sort of antibiotics during labor to keep from passing it to m...

Nursery Nesting

So yesterday my brother-in-law dropped the on-loan crib off at the house for hubby and I.  We looked at it, contemplated putting it together right away and then decided we'd better just leave the house and try it later.  I was on the hunt for a small table lamp for the nursery as well as a second blind to match the one I bought the other day for "testing".  I'd already purchased and returned a set of curtains that I decided weren't what I was looking for and used the refund from those to buy a roman shade to try out instead.  There are two windows in the nursery, and I wasn't sure if I was gonna like the shade so I just got the one to try it out.  Since it worked out perfectly and looked really awesome, I figured I'd go get the second one.  Of course, when the two of us head out together we usually end up getting at least one or two other items we hadn't planned on and make a lot of side trips between the errands we actually set out to do.  Befor...

Scientific Evidence

I had wondered why the midwife measures my belly with a tape measure at each visit.  I figured there was some sort of complex algebraic equation she was doing in her head based on the numbers she read on the tape.  But I read about it in my "What to Expect" book the other day and had to laugh at the simplicity of what she was actually doing.  When measuring from the top of the pubic bone to the top of the uterus, the centimeters let the doctor or midwife know how far along in your pregnancy your "fundal height" says you are.  And FYI fundus is the medical term for the top of an organ opposite its opening. So I decided to just try this here at home.  I grabbed a measuring tape, lay down on the bed and measured.  Sure enough, it was smack dab between 34 and 35 centimeters.  According to my estimated due date I am 34 weeks and 4 days into my pregnancy.  So I'm measuring right on track. Mind.  Blown.

A Little Different

I have to say I was incredibly productive yesterday.  And I even got in a nice long soak in the tub at the end of the day.  When hubby got home I helped him assemble the twin bed that will be my bed-away-from-bed in the nursery.  Then, once it was all put together we sat down in the floor and dug through the bags of loot from the baby shower.  Since he wasn't there for the majority of the party, he didn't get to see any of the good stuff our baby girl was showered with. So we dug in, all the while talking about his day at work and such.  After we went through pretty much everything, he helped me find a temporary home for the boxes and packages of diapers and wipes we received. Then he asked me if we could start getting some more "attitude" clothes.  I asked him if he meant things like this outfit we bought her at Spencer's Gifts. And he said yeah.  Baby girl got a lot of really soft, feminine and uber adorable clothes at the shower.  Very...

Chores

If someone were to be watching me today they might think I've got a small case of nesting going on.  But honestly, I'm just trying to get sh*t done.  The towels for both bathrooms needed washed.  The sheets and blanket that will go on my new bed needed to be washed as well.  I may or may not need that rug I'm washing as well, so I figured it should be fresh if I decide to use it in the new bathroom (that floor is kinda cold at night when I have to get up 2 million times to pee). I also have to finish getting the head and foot board for my new bed painted and ready to be assembled, since the mattress and box spring are here and just waiting patiently in the corner of the nursery to be put to good use.  And I will eventually have to wipe down some surfaces in the bathrooms, kitchen and nursery to keep them fresh and clean as well.  But the best part about having all of these things to accomplish today is that while one load washes and another dries, and...

February Already?!

Time flies when you're having fun.  I can't believe we've already checked off an entire month in the year 2013. Craziness. And that means that next month, I'm having a baby.  YIKES! I still feel wholly unprepared.  But I'll get there. Right?!? So last night we finally got our first real measurable snow fall.  They were calling for an inch or two, and typically here in the city that means a light dusting.  When I woke up around midnight to use the restroom for the second time since going to bed, there was just a dusting.  I figured that was it and it was over. When I woke up again for a trip to the loo I didn't bother looking out to see if we got any more since my last trip.  I shuffled in, did my business, shuffled back to bed and passed back out.  I woke up hearing hubby milling about downstairs getting ready for work and decided instead of cat napping and wasting my day, I'd go ahead and get up. I shuffled downstairs and was surp...
