Slow, Slow...Quick Quick

I have already nearly run my arse off since I came out of the house on Monday. Shew! As you may have read in the previous post I delivered and picked up coming out of the house and was headed for Illinois. En route I managed to get a trailer tire blow out which put a small cramp in my style for a little bit on Tuesday. But I still delivered the IL load and was assigned to pick up another load going to Ohio, which was a tight delivery that would require me to go to bed before the sun set and get up well before the sun rose the next morning. Not cool, but whatever... that's what they pay me for, right? So what I had to do was after I delivered the IL load I made my way to the nearest truck stop to shut down for a ten hour break. Upon waking I made my way to the shipper to pick up the preloaded trailer bound for Ohio. I then drove straight through to the consignee, with a quick pit stop to get a mud flap fixed at our Gary terminal. I delivered the OH load that same day. It was

Relaxed and Rollin'

Time off does a body good. Now it's back to it. Marge had been sitting on a load all weekend while I was off playing and enjoying myself, but together we had to get it to where it was meant to be this morning. Bright and early. Well... foggy and early actually. But we made delivery on time and that's what matters. After we got our box emptied out we headed back to the truck stop where we got a little cleaning and organizing done while we waited for a response from the powers that be as to whether or not we could pick up our next load earlier than appointed. After getting the go-ahead, we hit the road once again. 12 miles later we arrived at the shipping location and ended up having to do all sorts of fun stuff. First, I was required to change my clothes. It was hot, sticky with humidity so I had dressed for the weather that morning in a tank top and capri's. To do business on this shippers' property I had to have on long pants and a t-shirt at the minimum. After

You're So Helpful

Thanks to everyone who commented (but didn't get their comment published) on my last blog. MY BAD on the broken linky-do. It's fixed now though. If you get some weird page now it's your own fault. ; ) So today I went back to the place I had run out of hours at earlier this week in Beacon, NY, the place with very little space for the amount of vehicles coming and going. I was a little irked when I was dispatched yesterday to go there to pick up a load this morning. But I figured since I was going to be heading in for a 6 am appointment, when I knew they would just be opening for business, I felt a little less irked. At least I had a chance of getting there before anyone else, maneuvering about with out any obstacles this time. So this morning I got my head start, arriving 15 minutes before my appointment time. I was one of only three vehicles on the lot, the other two were cars. One of occupant of the cars was the loading dock guy and the other was the weekend office manage

The Website

iPhone Blog Attempt #1

So this is my first attempt at blogging via my iPhone. We will see how this goes. I'm looking forward to saving some money when I finally cave next week and ditch the AT&T air card. It costs me $60 a month and since I rarely ever use my laptop for most of the things I had always used it for since I bought my iPhone I keep finding it harder and harder to justify paying for the air card. So if this blogging attempt proves successful then I won't feel as bad about getting rid of the air card. I have fought with myself for a few months now over this decision and still find myself a little panicky at the idea of giving up such a simple device. It's come in very handy quite a few times but while handy, it's not really key to my survival or anything. So, away it goes. :-)

Bad Decisions

Yesterday I made a poor choice, perhaps. Here's the run down. The night before I had picked up a relayed load at our Carlise terminal that was scheduled for an 8 am delivery in Cranbury, NJ in the morning. My first bad decision was staying up too late playing on the computer when I should have been sleeping. So in order to make it from Carlisle to Cranbury, and fit a shower in, I had to wake up at 2:30 am. Five and a half hours of sleep... groggy but functional. I scrubbed up and hit the road and made it to Cranbury with a half hour to spare. At quarter til eight I checked in and was irked to learn that "there was not a scheduled 8 am appointment for this load" after all and that my load was thus being refused until the following day (which would have been today). I called my boss and explained. He gave me two options. Bad decision number two, of course, occurred at this moment. Option one was to sit on the load over at the Bordentown truck stops until an actual appointme

Read a Little or a Lot

I sat here doing one of those little things that one does while thinking at the helm of a keyboard... fingers in their proper place upon the keyboard I lightly strummed they keys as I thought. I bet it's annoying to others in the room. I don't care. It helps me think. Typically when I blog I start with a title, which is probably ass backwards from the way most folks do it. I find that when I create a title it directs my thoughts and words flow accordingly. Today I flip-flopped and am trying the typing before titling. It feels a little odd. But I'm up to the challenge. Things have been pretty mundane since I came out of the house last week. Pick up, deliver... repeat. Sleep and eat in between. Oh and Marge spent a night in the shop getting her PM oil change and some additional maintenance in there too. Yay, we have a jake and cruise control again. *happy dance* I sat around most of the day yesterday in Bordentown, NJ at the Petro (which I loathe) after delivering

Marge Got a Boo-Boo

Image
After thoroughly enjoying my time off this past weekend I arrived at my truck Tuesday morning to find that someone had knocked Marge around a little, Ike Turner style. Kinda sucked to roll up in the parking lot and find the drivers' side headlight housing had been viciously ripped off and lying on the ground. I was all kinds of ready for my first day back to work, but instead I had to make a bunch of phone calls, drive to boonie-ville hick town to get fixed up to be legal, then finally was able to get moving. From arrival to the truck stop to departure for official business was around 4 hours. UGH! But that's life I suppose. Of course once I was finally free to do what I get paid to do, things went swell. I picked up a load down the road from home and then headed north to PA. Stopping for the night at our terminal in Carlisle. I shut down and fell face first into bed, then got up this morning and headed over to the shop to see about getting a PM and some other maintena
