Oh Fun! A MeMe

1. What is your favorite interstate to travel?? One of my absolute favorites to travel is the recently re-opened stretch of I-40 in western NC into Tennessee. It's scenic, windy, has a few tunnels and its just beautiful! 2. Pilot, T/A, Flying J or Loves?? I'd rather a TA or Flying J just because they have better dining options than Pilot or Loves, which both generally have only fast food. But since my company primarily fuels at Pilots, that's where I'll end up since I get a free shower after fueling up. Plus they DO have the best damn coffee out there. I've even gone so far as to stay at a T/A but drive to a Pilot in the morning JUST for the coffee. 3. If you had to travel cross-country (East-West or West-East) would you prefer to take the Northern Route (I-80 or I-90) or the Southern Route (I-10 or I-40)? I'd prefer I-4o just because it's got all the old Rt. 66 stops on it. And I know where a few good places to stop are along that route. But I don't rea

Meet & Greet

I wish I had pictures to make this a proper introduction, but I couldn't bring myself to photograph her in her dirty state. I'll be getting her washed up in a few weeks and will at that point post her shiny mug shot. But in the meantime, folks, let's take a moment to welcome Large Marge to the fold. Yeah yeah I know, so many of you voted for Lucille, but honestly, I wasn't feeling it. I didn't realize so many of you would go for it though, I honestly thought Alice would get the most votes. But all along, I knew Marge would win in my heart. Partly because it's just a fabulous name, and partly because I loved the Large Marge ghost trucker character from Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Marge and I have had a few of our own adventures already. Today, for instance, we were separated by a thin barrier known as THE DOOR . (insert spooky music here) I had just arrived at a delivery destination. After shutting off the engine and grabbing the paperwork out of the door panel

Brake!

The longer I drive my new truck the most stuff becomes apparent that it's been used and abused by previous drivers. Last night I was laying in the bed reading and kept hearing a drip drip drip. It WAS raining and I just figured there must've been a power line or light pole over my rig that was dripping onto the top of the cab. Then I felt a little splash of moisture upon my neck. I turned around to find that the vent window on the left side of my bunk, right above my head was the leaky culprit. I knew it was a little busted and would need to be fixed but I didn't think it was bad enough to leak. I was wrong. So after cleaning up a little bit of the wet mess I stuffed as many paper towels as I could into the vents nooks and crannies and then shuffled a little further down into the bed to avoid any future drips that might get past the barrier I'd created. I woke up dry but chilly, since the vent was still cracked open a little all night. Whatever, at least I was d

Truck Swap

Well I had a safe journey to Columbus the other day, fairly uneventful. The most exciting part of the trip was when I filled up the tank before returning the rental car and seeing the receipt with less than $50 for a fill up. My guzzler at home is always over that amount from E to F and a big rig, well... lets just say it takes 200 gallons to fill up my rig, between two 100 gallon tanks and most places fuel is over $3 a gallon, so you do the math! haha When I arrived in Columbus the first thing I did was secure a hotel room and stash what I would need for an overnight stay. Then I headed over to the terminal to take a look at the trucks I was given permission to choose from. I had four on the list which gave me fairly decent odds that one of them at least would be acceptable. Of course I found two of them I wouldn't mind riding around in, one that made me think I'd rather be stung by a million bees and then eaten alive by a pack of wild boars instead and one was completely MIA.

Farewell Kenny

Today I picked up a rental car, cleaned my stuff out of Kenny and left him behind in Carlisle. I made the journey to Columbus where I will pick up a new (to me) truck tomorrow. One with a manual transmission. More to come...

Nevada Magic

I just have to say that every time I look at my blog I get all happy and smiley over the blog header my good gal pal over at The Daily Rant made for me. The pictures are three that I took myself, over at Walker Lake in Nevada on my first ever wild west big rig adventure. I sure wish I had more opportunities to get out west. But being a solo driver, loads are hard to come by since most of them are on a tight time schedule and so my company gives most all of the loads from the east and eastern Midwest headed to the left coast to team drivers. Booo hiss. I have had the pleasure of taking two trips to the pacific shores, however. And both times I enjoyed myself, well mostly. The last big trip I took to Cali put me in an ER with a severe inner ear infection. Of course it wasn't the west's fault, it was just a mixture of my terrible allergies and then those pesky constant and rapid elevation changes. Again, boo hiss. I do however love going westward. Most people loathe the desert so
