Oh Poo...

I'm such a naive mommy.  I thought that because baby girl was crying after the silent period that typically precedes her efforts to create a full dirty diaper, that it was time to go ahead and change her.  But apparently my little starfish wasn't crying to be changed quite yet.  No, as soon as I was mid tushy wipe I felt something warm on my hand.  At first I thought, "oh boy here we go again, she peed on me".  But then I looked down just in time to catch the jet action of her little digestive system as she shot poo across my hand, onto the changing pad cover, then onto the crib sheet, and finally onto the packet of wipes at the foot of the crib. (she gets a 4 out of 5 for distance for sure) All I could do was laugh.  I knew it was gonna happen eventually.  I've been peed on already quite a few times so I was sort of prepared.  But her pee just dribbles and puddles around her little tushy and is pretty easy to clean up.  This was a completely different, proj

The Starfish Has Landed

It's been a whirlwind week folks.  It’s hard to believe everything I went through in a little over a 24 hour period last weekend and everything I’ve gone through since.   Here is the story of how the birth of my little starfish unfolded. On St. Patrick’s Day, at around two o'clock in the morning I was awakened by the first contraction that would kick off my laboring.  I then spent the rest of the morning working through each subsequent contraction, trying to see if there was a time-able pattern to them.  They were coming anywhere between 8-15 minutes apart.  They were strong but bearable and I just let my body roll with it.  Around 3:30 am I finally gave in and called the on-call midwife.  I was unsure if I was actually in early labor and wanted to get an opinion on the matter.  The midwife returned my call quickly and asked me a few quick assessment questions.  She said I was likely in labor and offered to meet me at the hospital, where she was with another laboring

No News.....

Yup, still waiting.  Tomorrow is the Estimated Due Date and lease termination... but she's showing absolutely NO signs of preparing to move out any time soon.  I think the eviction notice just made her mad and I swear she's moved all her things to the top floor of my uterus in protest.  Whatever... I shall continue to wait... rather impatiently... but wait it is.

Eviction Notice

Yes I know yesterday I posted about being 4 days from my due date.  But today I'm only 3 days away from it. Which is closer by a whole 24 hours.  Oh, but don't worry, I'm feeling like things are gonna stay quiet for a while yet.  Baby girl seems quite content to just hang out in there, lounging around, getting fatter.  Can't blame her really, I'm sure it's much more cozy in there than it will be out here.  I'm thinking of writing up an eviction notice, however.  Yes, that should do it right?  Or will I have to deal with a lawyer, police, and tons of red tape just like when you evict someone in the real world? Well, regardless... here's my attempt at a quiet, peaceful eviction.... Dear Baby Girl,  You have three days to vacate the premises.  We, your mommy and daddy, are really anxious to get you into our arms as soon as possible.  We understand that you do technically have three days left on your womb lease, but would appreciate a prompt an

Close, but no cigars.

Yep, I'm still pregnant.  I've got four days until my due date and so far no real signs that the show is even close to beginning.  I'm still getting those fake-out Braxton Hicks contractions, however they have started to get stronger and more uncomfortable, but the midwife said that was normal at my appointment Monday morning.  I've been exhausted more than usual the past couple of days as well.  I get short sudden bursts of energy which are usually right around meal times and just before I decide to settle down for bed at night, go figure.  And I've been incredibly sore in the hips and lower back.  If I sit for too long I have a hard time getting back up, but once I get moving things ease up dramatically.  So I'm making myself move around more throughout the day to keep from getting too stiff. I do hope that labor starts sooner rather than later.  As of right now I have a temporary appointment set up for Monday for a regular check-up with the midwife.  And

So this past weekend the husband and I went to hang out with our friends in what may well be our last adults only event with them.  As you can see by the ticker up there, I've got less than two weeks until my estimated due date (EDD) and while I could end up going over-due, I've still don't really have that much time before our precious little one arrives. So, at every opportunity we've been doing the adults only type things we enjoy doing since we know eventually they will be crashed with poopy diapers and a cooing baby.  I don't foresee us giving up our current lifestyle, by the way, just adjusting it around the child so long as we continue to get invites to fun events with our friends. Saturday night, it was a boozy bonfire with our closest friends.  Mind you, I only got to drink water... the boozy fun was for everyone else and included lots of beer and jello shots. The bonfire was enormous and warm despite the snow that fell pretty much the entire time.  Bu

Motivated Laziness

I've decided that the above named title is also my current state of being.  I really, truly want to get at least one thing accomplished off my to-do list everyday, but I find that sitting on the sofa watching TV is much more desirable than cleaning. (the final word of that sentence is spoken with absolute disgust) But today, despite a few temporary setbacks, I did manage to get the vacuuming done... finally. I started my morning with a big bowl of generic rice crispies, which to me taste more like the memory of the name brand version's flavor I have from my childhood before they took all the good stuff out of it in an attempt to make it "healthier" than the actual name brand has today, a tasty glass of chocolate milk, and a banana.  Then I moseyed up the stairs to the TV room where I plopped down to watch the Today Show as per usual. I usually try to make it up for the last hour or so of Today.  And then of course I get sucked in to watching Kelly & Michael
