Over Gross... weight that is.

Wow, it's been 8 days since I last posted? Geesh . I guess time flies whether or not you're having fun, huh? I've been working my wheels off. I haven't bothered to refresh my memory by reading my last post, so I can't give you the run down of where I've been. At least not play by play. I did spend a few days in the south where spring lasted for a few hours one morning and summer took over like a mother hen... a bitch of a mother hen. I swear the day I spent in Florida was the hottest day of the year. According to one bank sign it was 95 degrees. And it sure felt like it. Actually I joked with friends and my hubby that it was one million and five degrees. When I made the joke to my hubby, he plugged that into some sort of conversion app on his smart phone and informed me that one million, five degrees was around 33 Kelvin. He's a nerd. But that's why I love him. After getting out of the south I found myself in the wonderful state of New Jersey. I

Haulin' A$$

So after having been bob-tailed to Morehead, KY I was assigned a load that picked up 130 miles from where they had bob-tailed me to. The load was going another 130 miles from there to Louisville, KY. It was a load of Kingsford Charcoal briquettes, prepackaged and ready for sale. The place I delivered it to in Louisville was a huge warehouse chock FULL of the stuff. I presume they were a major chain supplier stocking up in preparation for summertime BBQ's. After making that delivery I was then sent about 30 miles east of Louisville to pick up a load going to Dallas, TX. It was a nice haul but had a very tight schedule. I was afraid by the end of the first day southbound that I wouldn't make on-time delivery. But in the end, I managed to make it to my delivery destination not only on-time, but early. They were happy to have me and had me unloaded in no time. While I was en route to Dallas I received a message on the Qualcomm from my boss telling me he was trying to schedu

Slug Life

I'd forgotten how much trucking can wear you out. Well, okay so maybe my having been a couch slug for three weeks has a little to do with it. My first official day back in the world of trucking was a laugh-er. I had barely slept because, well... I'm not used to sleeping in a berth anymore and the mattress, while brand spanky new, is a bit uncomfortable at first. I'll break it in, in time. But that first night... oi vey! So I wake up, find a load assignment waiting for me on the Qualcomm (on-board computer) and decide that my bladder takes precedence and went in to use the facilities at the company terminal where I had spent the night before checking it out. Once that was taken care of I then jotted down all the information for the work assignment on my handy dandy notebook (yes that WAS a Blue's Clue's reference, get over it). The work assignment had me picking up a pre-loaded trailer at a facility in Zanesville, Ohio and taking it down to Bessemer, Alabama. Ea

Truckin'

Well I finally made it to a company terminal! Upon my arrival I made a beeline to meet my new boss in person. After that I got to meet my new truck, but not before I had to have the shop cut a key for it since the previous driver had locked the only key in the truck. Once I was in, and before I moved all my crap into the truck, I did a good once over on the inside and out and found that I needed to run it through the shop for some minor repairs. Nothing much and nothing that took very long. Just stuff that needed done and a few small things that I simply wanted done. (yes I'm still a prima donna) The truck had belonged to a smoker and so it reeked to high heaven. But I just rolled down the windows for a bit and let it air out. That helped a little. What helped the most was getting the old nasty smoke saturated mattresses out of the truck. They were the old school fabric covered ones so they were extra susceptible to the stinkiness of smoke. I was really lucky that they had

Closer than ever...

Well I got a call this morning informing me that a truck is available for me tomorrow. And instead of it being in BFE Kentucky it's in Columbus, Ohio. I have been in a packing/organizing/laundry doing frenzy since that call ended. So much to do! I will be leaving tomorrow morning, arriving hopefully no later than 11am at the company terminal. I have to do "training" because the truck isn't a "real" truck, it's an Ultra-Shift (which is just fancy for automatic). I'm a little disappointed that I won't get to grind any gears, but then again... I'm just lazy enough that it doesn't really upset me all that much. I'm just tickled pink that I'm finally going to be trucking again. And that my waiting is finally over. I thought maybe this was never going to actually happen. So watch out folks... I'm about to hit the road again. Gi-Gi Roxx + 18 Wheels = Adventuress on the Loose!
