Wal-Mart Hell

I have been Wal-Mart FREE for over 5 years. I have also been "Black Friday" FREE for about just as long. Actually I think I only went shopping on the day after Thanksgiving just once in my life and that was plenty enough of the experience for me.

I don't see the sense in the madness and I can't support the freakin' idiots that participate in the madness. If you're one of those freaks, my condolences.

I can't seem to wrap my brain around the way people have evolved into such animalistic assholes just to save a buck for one of the "Christian faith's most celebrated holidays". Perhaps it's just the adrenaline rush. Maybe its just the thrill of the hunt and the chase. Maybe... maybe it's just people being assholes.

Whatever the reason, it's senseless. And it certainly doesn't fit into the ideals of the Christian faith.

The sales and lower prices will not bring peace of mind. They will not make one into a better parent, friend, sibling, child, etc. And they will certainly not bring eternal salvation.

And FYI, for those freaks that don't pay attention, the sales aren't one day only either. That's how the big stores lure in all the suckers on the day after Thanksgiving... they say it's exclusive savings, one day only.. lowest prices of the year! Yada Yada Yada. It's bologna. Yeah, that's right. Straight up bologna.

It's like the mattress store "scam".... where a mattress store claims to have the lowest prices of the year on name brand mattresses for just "one day, weekend or week only". When in fact, they're selling everything at regular everyday prices. It's just a way to suck people in and make them think they're getting a special, super great deal.

Now I can't say that most of the stores that encourage the insanity of Black Friday aren't cutting prices for special holiday deals. But what farkin' retards (aka: the general public) fail to realize is that the next time they're at their favorite store, post-Thanksgiving and pre-Christmas, the prices are generally still as low as on Black Friday.

Anywho... I'm getting off point.

The point is that the lunacy of Black Friday and what it has created in people is just absurd and downright disgusting. I hate seeing reports of "Wal-Mart worker trampled to death by holiday shoppers" and "Two shoppers shot dead at Toys-R-Us" on Black Friday. Why do these things occur? Why?!

It's disgusting.

Greed is disgusting.

Those of you who are frequent readers for the enjoyment of my tales from the road, I apologize to you for bring this whole thing up. But I feel that people everywhere need to step back from themselves for a moment and take a good look in the mirror.

Are you acting like a maniac? Are you a crazed shopper who pushed and shoved your way to meaningless, material merchandise today? Are you really sure you like what you see in that mirror, in those eyes, not in the flesh? What is in your soul?

I am NOT a religious person. But I believe I am a genuine and good person. I believe that I can rise above the insanity and greed and gluttony and all the things that tarnish the human spirit, everyday, but especially this time of year. I believe that with faith in myself and the prospect of the greater human existence and experience to come, that I can spread a little joy every day in every way I can.

As I drove along the way today I thought about these things. About how much I have grown and changed over the years. Apparently, I'm in the minority as far as maturity goes, since apparently so many people are out there continuing to act like heathens and displaying intolerable stoopidity. I feel sorry for those folks. I hope that they have a chance some day to step back and realize that it's not about what you got or what you can get. It's about who you are. It's about respect and humility. It's about treating others the way you would want to be treated.

I may not celebrate this Holiday Season the same way you do or even for the same reasons as you do, but I believe in the goodness that is possible during a season filled with such hope, faith and light. My wish for you this Yuletide is for peace.

Peace within your heart, mind and soul. Peace within yourself so bright that it shines like a beacon to others.

Don't get caught up in the greed, my friends. Get caught up in the glee!

Happy Holidays folks.

I hear you - it's crazy. Killing someone to save a few bucks - at walmart nonetheless - is pathetic.
I hate shopping (at malls, stores, etc.) anyway, so you'd never catch me at a store on black friday. You can almost taste the greed.

If I want something that bad, I'll buy it online. There are plenty of good deals available from the comfort of you couch (or cab, as it may be ;) )

I did all my shopping online on friday, got some good deals, and didn't trample anyone (well, except maybe on my way to the bathroom at the house, I think I tripped over a dog).

Holiday shopping? More like holiday greed. I'm not religious, but we celebrate xmas as I have two kids. We try not to go nuts for the season as half of whatever you buy is ignored after the first week. It's not worth it.

Nice post!

I'm not sure exactly what you'd have to offer me to get me to a store on Black Friday or whatever it's called.
