Construction Zone

On Thursday we closed the refinance and funding loan on our house.  The funding, above and beyond the payoff for the previous mortgage, is for installing a kitchen in our house.  You see, since before I even moved in here (nearly 10 years ago) the kitchen has been pretty much "makeshift". No traditional cabinets or pantries, no drawers (save for that one metal cabinet with drawers that is always a disastrous mess).  We've had a fridge and a stove/oven and a sink.  But none of the other creature comforts of a modern facility.

But with this loan, that's all about to change.  Actually, the change is starting today as my hubby tears up part of the floor that needs repaired and replaced before we really dig in and get things moving.

Hubby is tearing in and tearing up the floor!

The floor is gone and he's going to be putting in new joists and sub-flooring.

We have already picked out flooring, cabinets, counter tops, and tile for the back splash.  We have yet to settle on actual appliances, other than that we know what basic features we want and what color we want as well.

Our biggest challenge has been deciding on placement and the actual style of fixtures for lighting.  He and I have quite different ideas about where and what to put up.  So I figure that will be the final battle we wage between us when it comes to this project.

I'm quite excited at the idea of having a real kitchen.  One with loads of cabinets, drawers and counter space even! I just wonder how long it will take us to complete.

In other news, Starfish is doing great.  Well, save for yesterday when she woke up in a bad mood that was made worse as a result of getting her 4 month vaccinations.  She was a pill until well past midnight last night.

Poor thing.

Between teething and shots and general growing pains, she was a right mess yesterday.  Today she woke up much happier but is already conked out for a nap.  I figure today she will be a sleepy bug since she fought it so hard yesterday.

We go this coming Tuesday to visit her pediatrician for a basic check up, which should go much better than the shots did.  I'm anxious to see how much she officially weighs now.  When I weigh myself and then grab her and reweigh myself it's about a 13.5 lb difference.  If that's even remotely accurate it's no wonder she's getting harder to hold for long periods.  She's growing so fast!

During the appointment Tuesday we are supposed to discuss starting her on solids, that is to say something other than breast milk.  I figure the doctor will suggest waiting until she's 6 months old, which is fine by me.  But if she does by chance give us the go ahead, then I can't wait to see Starfish's reaction to new foods.

I'm quite sure spoon fed Starfish pictures will be fun for sharing.

Here's a few videos of Starfish taken recently doing cute stuff.

Here she is going crazy for Sophie the Giraffe.
She is discovering her voice a lot more lately.

And here she is having a fun bit of bath time splashing.
