Oh Wait...I Lied.

Something exciting and challenging did happen recently.

I was headed to a drop location in Winchester, VA. I'd been there several times but always came in from the north. This time I came in from the south. My directions told me to exit the interstate and at the end of the exit ramp, turn right.

So I did.... and ended up noticing too little too late that it was the wrong way. I should've gone left. So now, to try to find a place to safely and legally turn around. I passed a small shopping plaza but it had "no truck" signs all over the place. So I just kept going. Until I got into nearly downtown Winchester. I saw a road that looked like if I turned left on to it, it would lead me to another road I could turn left on to and etc until I was back where I needed to be.

This was NOT so.

Here is where I ended up... stuck.

Not the right direction, eh?

I was certainly at a crossroads, but not one I could take my big truck on in any direction.

Not this way...

Can't go that'a way.

Or that...

Or that'a way.

The only way out was the way I'd come in... but to get turned around required assistance.

The right side, facing the wrong way.

So I dialed 9-1-1 and the dispatcher sent help right away. Two officers arrived on the scene, one to block off each end of the small road I was on to allow me traffic free maneuvering. I managed to get turned around in a very very tight spot. But turned around nonetheless.

And this lovely officer escorted me to where I needed to be. And then waved his hand and said good-bye. It was bitter sweet.

My police escort.

And VERY embarrassing!

...and yet you were calm and collected enough to take pictures of the sticky situation...

Bravo!

Well you certainly shouldn't get all worked up over something so simple. Now if I'd done damage or something worse, I might not have been of sound mind enough to have even thought of taking pictures.

Luckily... I've learned to be fairly calm in my life on the road ... no stress makes life a lot easier!

Wow. I hate when I do that. We had one in Boston a few months ago that was almost as bad. Finally had to have an officer block traffic and lead us back out into the world where trucks belong.

Was wondering if I could ask you a question. Stumbled across your blog because we recently started one and are finally going to have to break down and buy a camera. We have avoided this like its a pox-ridden lot lizard simply because we have no idea what to look for. Your pictures are stunning and I was wondering if you could tell me what camera you use. Thanks
