Party Planning
With the light of the construction of the new kitchen being visible at the end of the tunnel, I can now safely assume that the house will be in some sort of order when its time for Leelu's first birthday. Which means that we can have the small family party here instead of paying for a party room elsewhere.
Of course, with a first birthday looming in the near future, I've turned to Pintrest in search of ideas for a subdued yet unforgettable party. It's overwhelming, the amount of information and ideas available on a single site. But I think I've got a basic idea of what we can 1) afford and 2) pull off in the confines of our humble home.
Aside from party planning, I've been watching my sweet little Leelu go through some terribly tough teething for the past week or so. Her top two fronts are trying their darnedest to come in. A couple days ago she even spiked a fever of nearly 102 that turned me into one worried mama bear. But two doses of Infant Tylenol did the trick at breaking that fever and she's been "normal" since.
I do wish those teeth would come in already and give my sweet angel a break. Although, she's become quite cuddly through this round of teething and I hate to rush past that. She's never been much of a snuggler, and right now she's content most of the time just sitting on my lap, relaxing on me and being smothered in kisses. I'll treasure it as long as I can.
Luckily it's been in the midst of a "water crisis" here in our town, wherein we cannot use the water in any way. So my time can be spent cuddling instead of doing dishes, laundry and taking long hot relaxing showers. Once we are back on track water wise, our snuggle time will be cut back a bit I think.
If you've not heard, a chemical spill occurred last Thursday here in the capitol city of Charleston, WV, which contaminated our water supply upon leaking into the river. The plant responsible for the leak is directly UP-stream of the water treatment plan that supplies our water.
As a result of this leak, there was a DO NOT USE order put in place for nearly 300,000 customers served by that water system. We have not been allowed to drink, wash, bathe, or other wise USE our water since Thursday evening.
Lucky for us we have family in unaffected areas and have been able to obtain clean drinking/cooking/cleaning water and take showers and do laundry as needed. We also live in the first area that was given the go-ahead to flush our household system when they said the water was "safe to use" again.
But.... we waited.
The green light for flushing in our area was given Monday but we waited until today to do our flush. Mainly because we wanted to wait for the rest of the folks in the area to get most of the crud out of the lines before we brought it into our house. We still ended up with a yucky brown water for part of the flushing process and we can still smell the chemical fairly strongly in the water even after it started to run clear. So we will be refraining for a while yet from drinking or cooking with it.
This whole mess opened out eyes though. We know we living in an area prone to chemical disasters like this. They haven't called it Chemical Valley for generations for no reason. We are fully aware that at any time we might need to load up in the car and get out of Dodge on very short notice if something worse than this goes down at one of the many chemical plants in the area.
So now we are compiling a list of things we need to keep in a "go bag" that we can literally just grab on our way out the door in the event of a major incident. When we get that list completed, I'll post it for you in case you want to have something similar ready for your family.
