Happy Holidays
Well the 2009 Holiday season will officially end at midnight tonight, as we ring in a new year. It has been a bustling and busy little Holiday season in my neck of the woods. I was able to be home with my family for the Christmas day celebration, thanks to a great load planner who got me a sweet load that brought me right through my hometown. I had enough time to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with the family before I rolled out the morning after bound for Florida. The best part of the brief but wonderful Christmas stopover was just being with my loved ones ON Christmas day, especially my lil' brother who recently returned from his second tour in Iraq.
I totally loved being able to watch my niece and nephew tear into their presents. Seeing things through the eyes of children is always an interesting perspective, and this year was an entertaining vantage point. It seemed that before one gift was completely unwrapped, their little fingers were already digging into the next one. It was a hoot. I also loved the fact that for the first time in their little lives I've been able to really spoil them for the Holiday. Oh the joys of steady, reliable, profitable employment!
After all of the festivities came to a close on Christmas day, my sweetie and I returned home with our loot, exhausted with stuffed bellies, to relax a little before bedtime. It was a super swell way to spend a Holiday. And I was so thankful that I was lucky enough to actually get home for Christmas.
The next morning I had to hit the road though, but only for a few more days. After running hard from the 26th thru the 30th, I am home on VACATION!!! Yes, my friends I'm being paid to sit around in my pj's and blog! I love it! Vacations are sweeeeeet. And the best part, I have one more paid week off to use before July 1, at which point I will gain a fresh new two paid weeks on my employment anniversary! yay for vacay!
I don't have a whole lot planned for this vacation. Tonight, we venture over to our friends house to celebrate the end of 2009 and the beginning of 2010. Which I must add still seems surreal to me, as I remember being a wee little tot way back in the 80's (haha) thinking about how we'd be flying around in spaceships and have robots to cook and clean for us by the year 2000. I swear the Jetsons were just false advertising!
Aside from tonight's festivities, the only plans I have are for a group gathering to share in some of the beer and hot wings type of fellowship, and the usual errands to run and friends and family members to visit.
Next year, er...tomorrow, I plan to make it down to my old hometown to visit my pawpaw. My last living grandparent, who gave us all a big scare a few days before Christmas when he was out for his daily walk and took a fall, landed in the hospital and was being treated for a minor heart attack. The doctors still can't figure out why he had it, because apparently after all the tests and pokes and prods, they determined that he was healthy as one can be at his age. Which doesn't surprise me at all, since he's always lived a clean and active life. The man is a testament to how clean living helps one live a full and satisfying life.
I'll probably spend some more time with the kid brother, who came over and stayed with us last night to help me start off my vacation the right way, aka Partayyy!. I hope I get to see my sister and her family some. And I also hope to make it out to the firing range to play with one of my Christmas presents.... the .38 Special I got from my sweetie! And no, I won't shoot my eye out! Because I'm going to be purchasing a new pair of safety glasses before we blow holes in stuff. ;o)
Well anyway. I have so much to do today to get prepared for the New Years celebration. So I'd better get out of these pj's and into gear! I hope everyone has had a wonderful 2009 and I wish everyone the best in 2010!
See ya next year!
