Three Months...already?!
So my little Starfish is officially three months old today. I can't believe it has been three months already. It seems like it was just yesterday, or at least just last week, that we were bringing home our 7lb. 15 oz bundle of joy for the first time, quickly realizing we needed a few more things to make her nursery functional... like a trash can for her dirty diapers and a heater to keep the cold late winter nights at bay. We were excited but exhausted. Eager yet scared to start our journey into parenthood.
In the beginning she slept in short 2 hour spurts and took a half an hour to finish a meal. Sleeping through the night was just a dream we had. She was in newborn diapers and had a crusty black stump on her belly that we had to clean and keep dry. She screamed bloody murder during diaper changes and hated her sponge baths. She regularly got the hiccups and rarely ever spit up.She loved being snuggled but hated having anything on her feet.
When she was about a month old she was starting to sleep longer, 3-4 hours was a miraculous amount of sleep and the longest stretch mommy had seen since before Starfish was born. Starfish started to smile big and stay awake longer in the daytime. She was growing and learning and keeping mommy on her toes. And she'd graduated to size 1 diapers, a new born no more.
Then two months had crept up on us and before we realized it she was due for her first round of vaccinations, which she took like a champ and a check-up with her doctor. She tipped the scales at 11lb. 5oz. and had grown from 20.5 inches long to 23 inches long. She was busting out of her newborn clothes, many of which were already too short for her long little body. She was just a few weeks away from graduating to size 2 diapers....
...which we have been in now for two weeks.
She has been growing ever faster, chunking up a good bit and filling out her clothing better. She may not be long for her 0-3 month clothes now. And we will probably be in the size 2 diapers for only a few more weeks. She's learning things so fast, becoming more aware of the world around her and curiously looking at everything she can set her eyes on. A walk downtown this past weekend was a visual treat for her for sure. Her little eyes taking in as much as they could, her little head swiveling from side to side as she worked to process it all and see as much as she could.
She's grabbing and holding onto toys and becoming increasingly more playful. She smiles big and half laughs and really enjoys the attention she gets from not only Mommy and Daddy, but anyone willing to give it to her. She is finally getting the hang of tummy time (not crying the entire time and finally lifting that big ol' noggin off the floor) and is trying hard to sit up on her own.
She sleeps through the night now too. She has been doing that for at least three weeks now, with only one instance in the first week of it where she woke up wanting to eat before she would go back to sleep. She typically sleeps between 8-10 uninterrupted hours a night. And wakes up with a huge smile on her face wanting to play a little before she takes her breakfast booby.
It amazes me every day how much she's changed in the past three months; how big she's gotten and how much she's learned. As I sit here right now I look over at her, napping in her bouncy chair, and realize how much I've changed and grown and learned as well.
We've got a lifetime of such development ahead of us. And I look forward to every day and every challenge that comes our way.
Happy 3 Months of life Starfish! Mommy & Daddy love you more than you'll ever know!
